Leviticus 19:11–13Easy: You must not steal. You must not cheat people. You must not lie to each other. You must not use my name to make false promises. If you do that, you will show that you don’t respect the name of your God. I am the Lord! “You must not cheat or rob your neighbor. You must not hold a hired worker’s salary overnight until morning.
These verses forbid stealing, lying, and defrauding neighbors; commands paying workers promptly. These verses remind us that God’s people are called to live with clean hands and a clean heart. Stealing, lying, and defrauding others are not just actions, they are fractures in the trust that holds a community together. God cares deeply about how we treat one another, especially the vulnerable. He commands honesty. He commands fairness. He commands that workers be paid promptly, because He sees the weight a delayed wage places on a family. In every line, God is saying: “Honor one another because you belong to Me.” These verses invite us to look inward: Are my words truthful? Are my dealings fair? Do I treat others with the dignity God gives them? It comforts us outwardly: If someone has lied to you, cheated you, or taken from you, God sees. He is a defender of the wronged and a restorer of what was withheld. His justice is not distant, it is personal, protective, and deeply compassionate.
Father God, make my heart honest and my actions upright. Keep me from anything that harms or deceives another. Where I have been wronged, bring Your justice and restoration. Where I have wronged others, give me courage to make things right. Teach me to walk in truth, fairness, and compassion, just as You do. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus Precious Name, Amen.
